The New River 400th Anniversary Celebration Walk

A weekend walk tracing the route of The New River from Hertfordshire to Finsbury.

The New River was opened ceremonially on September 29th 1613. Four hundred years to the day we will toast this incredible feat of engineering at the New River Head.

The walk is around 30 miles long so we will be tackling it in two stages, starting at the source on Saturday 28th September and breaking for an overnight stay half-way before completing our journey on Sunday 29th.

En route we will learn the history of the New River, see some stunning countryside, as well as some more gritty urban environments, pause to take on refreshments at some beautiful pubs and above all enjoy each other’s  company on this celebratory hike.

The group size will be kept deliberately small, an absolute maximum of 20 people, to encourage a convivial and chatty atmosphere. The walk is also not suitable for children so only adults over 18 can take part.

The route does contain many inclines and is likely to be muddy in some parts so is not accessible to those with mobility impairments.

Price

The price of the walk per person is £75 which will include a couple of complimentary treats and a souvenir.

Accommodation

I have secured rooms at the historic Theobalds Park Hotel. A room for two will be £75 including breakfast. The hotel can allocate twin or double rooms or can give an individual quote for a single room or a room upgrade.
